Jeanne Pierce - Biography

 Artist’s Statement

I have always found my peace in nature, and in my artwork I strive to communicate that peace to my audience.  Birdsong in a quiet forest, the gentle feel of a soft breeze, the sound of the sea, or the warmth of the sun are just a few of the feelings I hope to communicate.   As a lifelong student of the natural world, I have always been intrigued by the infinite variety of form and color to be found in nature. Natural light illuminates these forms in a variety of ways: sometimes acting as a spotlight on a particular aspect of a scene, or spreading a diffused glow over the landscape, and other times illuminating the entire landscape in bright sunlight, or veiling it with deep shadows. In my artwork, I attempt to convey these varying effects of light on form and color, and communicate the feeling of a particular place and time.

A native of Oakland, New Jersey, Jeanne Pierce received her BFA from Syracuse University, and continued her study of painting with Alban Albert and John Osborne. This training was essential in providing the tools to become a dedicated plein air painter. After moving to Massachusetts in 1982, Pierce continued to paint while raising her family. She has worked as a floral designer, and as an artist for a local furniture company, creating hundreds of pieces of hand painted furniture, and taught visual art in Lowell, MA for many years.  She is currently working full time in her studio in Amherst, NH, and teaching adult oil painting classes at Creative Ventures in Milford, NH.

Pierce continues to paint landscapes in oil, working outdoors as much as possible. She exhibits her work at many regional and local shows and competitions throughout New England. Her work can be seen at Ceres Gallery in Portsmouth, NH and Gallery 46 in Amherst, NH.  She is a member of The Newburyport (MA) Art Association, Ridgewood (NJ) Art Institute, and New Hampshire Plein Air.  She has exhibited in many juried shows including: The Fitchburg Art Museum, Ridgewood Art Institute, Newburyport Art Association and the Cape Cod Art Association. She has received several awards and her work is included in numerous private collections.
